Stephen Biss is a retired criminal law defence lawyer formerly in private practice, since 1979, in the Greater Toronto Area, with his office in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He has a special interest in assault, domestic assault, shoplifting, impaired driving, drunk driving and Youth Criminal Justice Act matters.

As an articling student in 1977 Stephen Biss worked for the Brampton Crown Attorney's Office. In 1979 he became both criminal law and family law duty counsel at the Peel County courthouses. In 1981 Mr. Biss became a part-time Assistant Crown Attorney by Order-in-Council. By 1983 he was a defence representative on the team of Judges, Crowns, police officers, probation officers, and court staff who planned the implementation of the Young Offenders Act in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon. He is an active member of the Peel Law Association, the Peel Criminal Lawyers Association and the Ontario Criminal Lawyers' Association serving on a number of committees. He is a past President of the Peel Criminal Lawyers Association.

His mission statement includes the belief that criminal counsel, whether Crown or defence, must always be diligent in making the system work better by challenging injustice and inadequate investigation. Persons brought before the Court are often in a position to make major life changes.
