What is the difference between a provincial offence outlawing the sale of tobacco to persons under 18 or 19 and a criminal offence?
Should adults be permitted to possess tobacco?
Should the smoking of tobacco be permitted among consenting adults in private?
Should tobacco become a prohibited substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act?
Perhaps it's time we treated possession of tobacco the same as possession of marijuana.
It absolutely should be a controlled substance. Tobacco is highly addictive and detrimental to one's health. Also many people who do not smoke are being exposed to the deadly substance regularly and without their consent. This is unfair and should not be allowed to continue.
I think that to make it illegal to possess tobacco is dumb. I am a non-smoker and like that they have made the bylaw so that there is no smoking in public places like restaurants. But to go as far as making it illegal wont do anything but make a whole bunch of people upset. It wouldn't stop a lot of people anyway. If there are still people that use illegal drugs, making tobacco illegal would only make it more tempting for rebellious teenagers.
making tobacco a controlled substance is absolutely ridiculous, why not decriminalize all substances and leave it up to the individual to decide what is best for them? the choices are obvious... death.. making tobacco illegal would only inspire teens to rebel.. if marijuana were legal, it would only take away from the fun of doing it.. criminalizing tobacco would create a similar aura of rebellion..
I think people should smoke if they want to and not be picked up by police. Young or not.
