Library: Peel Law Association Library. Many quiet study carrels with power but no Internet access. Quicklaw and CD ROM access for PLA members.
Internet Data Access: Most of the interview rooms outside the courtrooms have a yellow telephone jack with a 4 digit large font number. Connect your dial-up modem, dial 9 first, then your regular dial-up ISP. We were promised courtroom connections during construction but the promise was not kept. The building (including courtrooms) has steel double floors for easy network cable laying. The steel floors, however, severely restrict cell phone voice and data connections. The Peel Criminal Lawyers Association will continue to press for better Internet connectivity from courtrooms.
Directions to Courthouse: Located on Hurontario Street between Derry Road and Steeles Avenue. From Hwy. 401 take Hurontario Street North to Courthouse entrance or County Court Road. From Hwy 410 North take Derry Road or Steeles Ave West to Hurontario Street
History: The original Peel County Courthouse is a beautiful (see it in Hollywood North films) 1 courtroom building in downtown Brampton attached to the old Brampton jail which is now the Peel County Museum. That courthouse was replaced by the 1967 County Courthouse, Clarence Street criminal court, Mississauga Hensall Circle court, and Brampton Family Court. All of those buildings have now been replaced by the new A Grenville & William Davis Courthouse opened in 2000, with 50 courtrooms and 40,000 charges per year.
